Mould Mates was founded by two mates, Nick and Trav, who were tired of living in mould-infested rental properties and decided to do something about it.
Our mission is simple: to help Australians live healthier home lives, free from mould and its effects.
We are mould remediation and indoor hygiene specialists. We locate, treat, remove and prevent mould growth using advanced tools such as thermal imaging, moisture mapping, humidity testing and science-backed remediation methods that deliver real results — safely and effectively.
We do more than just wipe mould from surfaces. Our comprehensive remediation option includes everything from surface treatment to physical source removal. We work with quality trades where physical removal is required so you can return to a mould-free, like-new home. We pride ourselves on providing top-tier service and high-quality work.
Our clients trust us for thorough site inspections and comprehensive reports outlining recommended treatments and preventative measures so you won’t have to worry about mould again.
No - Most of the chemicals we use are biodegradable and environmentally friendly.
Mould grows when excess moisture is present. Common causes include water leaks, poor ventilation, high indoor humidity, condensation, flooding, or plumbing issues. Mould spores are always present in the air, but they only grow when moisture conditions allow. When humidity is above 55% mould will begin to grow.
Not necessarily. Mould related health issues often show up as things you'd blame on something else, tiredness, blocked sinuses, kids getting sick more often, trouble sleeping. Research shows these symptoms build gradually, so most families don't connect the dots until the problem is already serious. A proper inspection can tell you for sure.
Yes. Mould exposure can trigger respiratory problems, allergies, asthma flare-ups, headaches, fatigue, and skin or eye irritation. Long-term exposure, especially in damp environments, can significantly impact indoor air quality and overall health.
Most GPs aren't trained to identify mould-related illness, it's not part of standard medical education in Australia. But the condition is well-documented in peer-reviewed literature. Mycotoxin exposure has been shown to disregulate the immune system, damage respiratory lining, and impair cognitive function. If you suspect mould is affecting your health, we can help you get the evidence you need to have that conversation with your doctor.
Yes. Mould spores and fragments can irritate the respiratory system, aggravate asthma, and cause allergic reactions such as coughing, sneezing, sinus congestion, and shortness of breath.
There are many DIY methods to choose from. Sometimes this can work for very small spots. At Mould Mates, we assess the root cause of the mould problem in your home. We can identify what can be surface treated and what need a much more in depth approach to provide a long term solution to stop the mould from coming back.
Yes. Children, elderly individuals, pets, and people with asthma or weakened immune systems are more vulnerable to mould exposure and may experience stronger or longer-lasting symptoms.
In most cases, only for a 3 hours. For larger remediation works involving containment or removal of materials, temporary vacating may be recommended. We advise this on a case-by-case basis after assessment.
While the term “mould poisoning” is commonly used, the real concern is prolonged exposure to mould spores and mycotoxins, which can cause serious health effects over time. Professional remediation reduces this risk significantly.
We get it - there's a lot of fear-based marketing out there. That's why everything we share is backed by peer-reviewed research, not opinions. The World Health Organisation links indoor mould to 1 in 5 asthma cases. These aren't sales claims - they're published findings you can look up yourself.
We locate moisture sources using visual inspection, moisture meters, thermal imaging, and building assessment techniques. Treating mould without identifying the moisture source is ineffective.
Responsibility for mould removal depends on the cause. Tenants are generally liable if they failed to allow adequate light or airflow, or didn't report water damage or leaks. Landlords are liable if they failed to repair leaks, address rising damp, or ensure the property was clean at the start of the tenancy. Each case is assessed individually. Speak with your real estate agent for guidance.
Yes. Mould commonly grows inside wall cavities, behind bathrooms, under carpets, and in roof spaces where moisture is trapped and ventilation is poor.
Containment isolates affected areas using physical barriers and negative air pressure to prevent mould spores spreading to clean parts of the home during a large scale remediation job.
That's fair, and we won't pretend it's free. But consider this: the average Australian family spends thousands a year on GP visits, medications, and sick days that may be connected to poor indoor air quality. A mould assessment gives you a clear answer and if there's no issue, you've bought peace of mind. If there is, you've caught it before it gets more expensive to fix.
Timeframes vary depending on the severity. Small jobs may take a few hours, while larger remediation projects can take several days, including drying and verification.
Yes. We use professional-grade products designed for indoor environments and apply them using controlled methods. Safety precautions are always followed.
We eliminate mould and address the root cause by identifying moisture issues. You will receive a prevention plan upon completion. Improving ventilation and keeping humidity below 55% are a great place to start.
Costs vary depending on the extent of contamination, access, and required remediation level. An on-site assessment is the best way to determine accurate pricing.
In some cases, yes - particularly when caused by sudden water damage. Coverage depends on the policy and circumstances.

Your Air-conditioner/heater will circulate mould spores, dust and allergens throughout your home if not cleaned regularly.
Our technicians are trained to properly assess your unit, dismantle and deeply clean the system, using non-toxic antimicrobial agents to remove mould, dust and allergens, without risking damage to the unit.
Fogging is an extra step which aids in killing off airborne spores. This helps to prevent mould from coming back.
The fogging agent is non-hazardous, biodegradable and not harmful to any contents.
The process distributes a mist right throughout the property to help prevent mould growth from spores which may have traveled there from the original contaminated zone.

Re-doing the silicone in wet areas is a crucial preventative service to stop water ingress into cavities, walls, behind tiles and vanities.
Once this happens, mould grows aggressively in these spaces, eventually starting to grow through the walls, floor or celling.
Once mould is inside the structure, porous building materials must be removed in order to treat the mould at the root. Simply wiping the mould off the surface is not enough.
Once mould is inside a wall it will contaminate both sides of the wall, leaving the adjacent room needing remediation.
You get sick far more often than you should.
You never used to get allergies, now you have them all the time.
There a musty smell in your house and you can't get rid of it.
The silicone in your bathroom has seen better days, its discoloured and cracked.
You constantly clean mould but it keeps coming back.
You likely have a mould problem in your property.
Don't worry, We can help.
"Mould Mates was created out of frustration with an industry that often treats mould as a cosmetic issue rather than a building and health problem.
For most of my younger life, my family and I lived in mouldy rental properties, Everyone in the home had constant health issues despite leading a healthy lifestyle and diet.
Too often, we saw mould “treated” with a quick clean, wiped with bleach or painted over, only for it to return weeks or months later. The moisture source, the causation, was ignored. Contaminated materials were left in place, and we were left thinking the problem was fixed, when it wasn’t.
Later in life after many years in the construction industry, I understood how buildings are constructed, how moisture moves, and why shortcuts fail. I also saw too many operators cutting corners building flawed homes destined to have long term issues.
So we stepped away to build something better.
Mould Mates exists to provide high-quality mould remediation that actually works. We focus on proper assessment, correct removal, and long-term prevention—so mould doesn’t keep coming back."
